18-year-old shot dead on Southern; body identified
Police are still looking for the suspect
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — The victim in the shooting has been identified as 18-year-old Rayvel Stokes.
The shooting occurred in the 6200 block of Southern Avenue and was reported at 8:54 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14.
Stokes and another man were in a residence arguing over a phone or a gun when stokes was shot multiple times, according to a major incident report about the homicide.
Shreveport police are still investigating the deadly shooting and three other calls about gunfire elsewhere in the city, all of which occurred within two hours.
The suspect is described as being a heavyset Black male in his 20s who was wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans with cutouts and red slippers.
Dispatch records show that five SFD units and four police units initially responded to the shooting on Southern between East 61st and East 63rd streets. That number later grew to at least eight units.
Less than a half hour earlier, first responders were summoned to a call about gunfire on Lone Oak Drive between Southwood Drive and Melody Lane.
Fire Department medics transported no one from either scene.
Meantime, police have since gotten a call about gunfire at Olive Street at Gilbert Drive. That came in at 9:49 p.m. Police initially sent four units to that scene.
Then at 10:23 p.m., police received a report of gunfire at Herndon Steet at Magnolia Avenue.
