Jasmine Franklin

Jasmine Franklin joined the KSLA News 12 team in January of 2023 as a news reporter. She's a recent graduate of Grambling State University. She comes to KSLA from sister station, KNOE 8 News in Monroe, La. Franklin interviewed Vice President Kamala Harris during her campaign. She was invited by AT&T to speak at the Essence Festival in front of 60,000 people in July of 2022. Franklin has also appeared on the ABC News billboard in Times Square and in Chevrolet commercials.

The Chicago metropolitan area native grew her passion for storytelling in high school, where she anchored and reported for Viking Television, a student-run newscast. She excelled in media during high school, winning several Midwest Regional Awards, including 1st place for a News Package.

Her goal is to give a voice to the voiceless and to amplify voices of people in underrepresented communities. At Grambling State University, she made history by becoming the youngest editor in chief of The Gramblinite Newspaper as a sophomore. She served as editor in chief for three consecutive years, while also completing eight media internships.

Her hobbies include traveling, and cooking vegan foods. She studied abroad in Italy her freshman year at GSU and has been a vegetarian for seven years. If you would like to share a story idea, you can email her at jasmine.franklin@ksla.com.
